As a licensed structural and civil engineer, forensic expert consultant, arbitrator, and educator with over four decades of experience, Casey Hemmatyar has provided extensive expert services to plaintiff and defense attorneys on numerous construction litigation matters throughout the United States and Canada. He holds engineering licenses in more than a dozen U.S. states and one Canadian province.

Federal and state government agencies, law firms, and insurance carriers have retained him as an expert engineer in approximately 200 litigation matters, including individual and class-action cases. A partial list of cases is available upon request.

His understanding of core engineering and legal concepts has enabled him to assist a wide range of clients effectively. He brings diverse experience in structural and civil engineering design, as well as in forensic engineering investigations and evaluations.

He also conducts research, has helped develop building codes and standards, and has supervised domestic and international construction projects. His experience includes special structures and new buildings, as well as modifications, alterations, seismic and hurricane retrofits, and upgrades to existing structures. He has provided failure analysis, expert consultation, forensic structural investigation, and damage assessment services for numerous litigation and insurance-related matters.

He regularly presents continuing education lectures to licensed engineers, architects, and general contractors on structural and forensic engineering topics throughout North America. Mr. Hemmatyar has been the principal structural engineer on projects for NASA and several other high-profile agencies. He currently directs PSFEG and served as a Director of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) from 2011 to 2013.

His work covers many types of structures, including hospitals, schools and universities, telecommunications centers, aviation facilities, government buildings, and laboratories, as well as commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.

He is well-versed in structural design in concrete, structural steel, cold-formed (light-gauge) steel, wood, masonry, aluminum, glass, and other construction materials. He also has experience in performance-based design, seismic hazard evaluation and mitigation, and the development of reports evaluating essential structures, including hospitals and emergency facilities.

He has been interviewed by the media, including the History Channel (in the documentary episode "Collapse of Ancient Structures") and Reuters (following the 2017 Mexico City school collapse).

Mr. Hemmatyar’s experience also includes:

■ Investigation and evaluation of the structural integrity of existing structures,

■ Expert consulting, court appearances, and trial testimony.
