Evaluation & strengthening

Seismic Engineering & Retrofit

Assess seismic performance. Understand deficiencies. Develop a practical strengthening approach.

PSFEG’s experience includes seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing buildings, hospital assessments, non-ductile concrete structures, and seismic design of structural and non-structural systems.

Discuss an Assignment

Seismic evaluation

Existing buildings

Evaluation of structural systems, irregularities, and seismic performance for continued use, alteration, or rehabilitation.

Healthcare facilities

Project experience includes SB-1953 HAZUS studies and evaluation of concrete, masonry, and other hospital structures.

Risk & due diligence

Seismic risk assessments, probable maximum loss studies, and structural due diligence within an agreed assignment.

Non-structural systems

Seismic design and assessment of architectural components, equipment support, connections, and anchorage.

Retrofit & analytical methods

Strengthening experience includes steel moment frames, underpinning, existing-member and connection upgrades, and non-ductile concrete retrofit. Analysis may use response-spectrum, time-history, nonlinear pushover, or dynamic procedures where appropriate.

  • Evaluation of existing load paths and structural systems
  • Seismic strengthening, rehabilitation, and foundation support
  • Performance-based design and probabilistic hazard analysis
  • Assessment of structural and non-structural earthquake damage

A project-specific basis

Historical projects identify the standards and methods used at the time of the assignment. The applicable criteria and scope for a new engagement are established for that project; past code editions are not presented as current requirements.
